Dhaka @TwitterDev Community, Meetup-1

This was my first expression when I was selected to be the organizer of the @TwitterDev event in Bangladesh as the Community Lead of Dhaka Twitter Developer Community.

One day, I was checking out the twitter platforms and suddenly noticed their local community announcement blog. Read the blog and followed their steps. I was so obsessed with this that I took a decision to be a part of this family and make some friends of this giant platform named Twitter.

Normally community engagement attracts me all the time. That’s why when I saw I couldn’t wait and talked as early as I could. At first I was introduced with an awesome lady, @Kelly who is Senior Advocacy Marketing Manager at Twitter. She helped me a lot to grow up our community.

Pre Event

After almost one month from the conversation we have organized our very first event of Dhaka @TwitterDev Community Meetup at NewsCred. We had our event on 24 February 2017 – the holiday from 4pm to 6.30pm, we did our event. It was cool because more than 30 passionate developers, designers, market analysers joint the event and more than 70 people showed interested to join the community and want to be part of it.

before the day of the event, @Kelly introduce with the master guy @AndyPiper who is  the lead @ @ platform team. We three did the last meeting to finish our final preparation for the event. Andy helped me a lot to provide some important contents and the session video clips where the Twitter Platforms are explained very clearly.

Event Day

It was almost 4.15 pm when we started our very first event regarding Twitter and announce the Dhaka Twitter Developer Community is live. From now on, in Bangladesh, we have a @TwitterDev Community who will bring developers together to share best practices and learn more about the Twitter Platforms.

Our Agenda was:

  • Speaker – 1 (Sunnat): Greeting & @TwitterDev Community Overview
  • Greeting from Twitter by Kelly
  • Introduce with each other
  • Speaker – 2 (Andy -online): @TwitterDev, @twitterapi Overview
  • Snacks Time
  • Speaker – 3 (Pranjal): Download Twitter Stream using Twitter API
  • Speaker – 4 (Safwan): Product Support through Twitter
  • Future plan and Conclusion

There were 4 speakers including me. Our main speakers gave a recored session for the event.

Speakers of the MeetUp-1

There was a Greeting message from the Twitter which motivated us to be a part of the community.

Then I started talking about the history of this community and what will we do through it. We had some funny and informatics questions to grab the attention of the participants and the right answer holders were rewarded with a twitter stickers.

Then we started to watch the online recored session of Andy. That was really helpful to understand its mission, vision and how the platform works. Though the main agenda of the our event was a introductory, most of them didn’t bring laptops. So we didn’t go for coding. But we have learnt some nice features that many of us didn’t know about them.

For Example, One is Twitter Publish and  TweetDeck. They are really useful and we should try these to make tweet life easier.

After the session, we had a break. We had some yummy Sandwich, soft-drinks. We made a Sign board where the participants wrote some good wishes about the event and the community  with their TwitterIDs.

After the break we again started the event with our 3rd speaker, Pranjal who is currently a Software Engineer on Java and he did a thesis using Twitter Data. His topic was Download Twitter Stream using Twitter API. He showed some demo of his work and how it worked. Some are really pleased to see the use of twitter API.

The last one was taken by Safwan who is also a Software Engineer in Python and one of the core contributor of Support Mozilla.Product Support through Twitter was the topic of his session. He is using this for support the users of Mozilla platforms. He showed how to use the APIs to control and filter the users problem and answer them. He also showed how the use of it with the Twython Libs. We will show more details in our next event.

After all the event, I just shared our future plan and invite them to make our community bigger.

Lastly we took some pictures with the Stickers, Twitter Frame, Twitter Board and finished our very first meetup of twitterdev of Bangladesh. 😀

From, next event we will go for an advance push and work with Twitterapi.
